As March rolls in 8th graders are finishing up informative essays about the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Each student selected an event to focus their research and writing and will present their work to their peers this week. Once concluded, students will then transition into studying poetry and creating their own works to use in our Poetry Tournament, which mimics the NCAA tournament bracket.
In addition, students in 8th grade are currently reading novels of choice inside and outside of class. These novels were then used to create a playlist of songs that connected to their books. Students showed their creativity and their unique taste in music as they presented their final products. Up next, students will be writing poetry about their independent reading books.
Finally, The Cedar Springs Education Foundation granted the 8th grade ELA department money to purchase new books for classroom libraries. Students and staff are thrilled to receive this gift and know that the books will be put to use immediately.
